ABOUT MĒGAN A. JONES

Mēgan A. Jones (pronounced Mee-gan) was always drawn to the arts. She took AP Art in HS, received an art scholarship to college, worked as the art instructor at a prestigious boarding school, and volunteered her time where she could.

Life took over, and her artwork was “shelved” for almost 20 years. Here in AZ, almost a year of foot surgery recovery prompted an interest in returning to painting. She fell back in love with a newfound vision, energy, and style for her art. Her work explores the beauty of the natural world. Focuses include nature, animals, and the female figure. She chooses subject matter that can evoke calmness, sensuality, excitement, and strength. In using acrylic paint, she is able to use the kitchen as a studio, combining real-life duties as a mother with her endeavors as an artist. Her husband and friends make the frames for her. Her son often decides between photos for each painting.

Her process is about building lights upon darks and then back again until the piece feels balanced. She has experienced many light and dark times in life, all of which have made her a more intricately woven individual, with greater breadth and interest. She believes art can be the same way. In addition, the message in each piece is about whimsy, imagination, and freedom. One of the subjects she paints most frequently is horses. Representing symbols of freedom, connection, and reflection, they have always been important in her life. The unique opportunity to witness horses in the wild along the Lower Salt River here in Arizona is magical.

She is pairing the sales of her horse paintings this year with a donation to their protection through the SRWHMG. They are currently in need of funds and support to maintain the horses’ safety and history. In a world that can feel overwhelming, Megan hopes you find a piece of her art that brings you joyous insight, fulfillment, and inspiration.
